Melanie Garcia, PhD

Dr. Garcia is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Division of Neuropsychiatry and Neuromodulation at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. She graduated in 2017 with a Master’s Degree in Science and Executive Engineering from École des Mines de Saint-Étienne, France. For three years, she worked on various projects leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance medical knowledge and discoveries for both private companies and non-profit institutions. From 2019 to 2023, she completed her Ph.D. at Trinity College Dublin, School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, focusing on the detection of Autism Spectrum Disorder in brain MRI data using deep learning algorithms, under the supervision of Dr. Clare Kelly. She received distinctions supporting her work: the 1252 Award from the TCD School of Medicine in 2020, and the Irish Research Council Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme Award in 2021. In the DNN, she collaborates with Dr. Benjamin Wade to develop data-driven approaches, particularly deep learning models on neuroimaging data, aiming to enhance the understanding and treatment of mood disorders. Her interests include the development of AI tools in psychiatry and neuroimaging, as well as addressing the challenge of reproducibility in neuroscience.
